Sprinkler Fun

I can remember how much I loved to run through the sprinkler when I was a little girl. We did not have a sprinkler system in our yard, but our neighbors did and every evening when it would come on I would ride my bike, roller skate, and run through the sprinklers. There was something about the fine mist generated from the automatic sprinklers that I just couldn't duplicate with our plastic sprinklers at home. However, I can remember putting one of the round sprinklers we had on my head like a water crown, that was pretty awesome!

The other night Sophie, Zoe and I went for a walk. Sophie insisted on wearing her rain boots. I'm not sure why, but I decided to just go with it. They ended up coming in handy because one of our neighbors had a sprinkler going over the sidewalk. At first she was apprehensive about it...but soon she too discovered the joy of a sprinkler on a hot summer night. She loved it so much I went out to buy her one of her own. Yes, we spent a huge sum of money on an automatic sprinkler system for our yard, and I went out and bought her a plastic one...oh how things change!

Ballet Recital

Sophie made her ballet debut on May 18, 2011...and she was amazing! When I dropped her off at the performance entrance she started crying. I had trouble finding the theater and was running late (which ALWAYS stresses me out) so I was rushing her and I think I stressed her out. I left her with her teacher and she was pretty much hysterical. I knew staying with her would mean there was NO way she would go on-stage, so like every great stage mom I left her.

Adam and I fully expected that she would either A) Refuse to go on stage or B) Get on stage, realize there were a ton of people watching, and either melt down or run off. We were wrong. She did great! She even created her own solo when all the other kiddos got confused. Any time I need a pick me up, I just watch this video. My favorite part is when she waves at the helper to stay off stage...hilarious.

Here is the video evidence...Sophie is the last one out of the train and is on the far right...so stinking cute.

When we went to pick her up immediately after her performance she was crying again. However, she watched the rest of the recital in awe. We have the DVD of all the performances and she watches it at least daily. She even tries to copy the dances. I'm pretty sure she is a natural.

Melting Pot

This year for Father's Day Adam took Sophie and me to the Melting Pot. It was "technically" a Father's Day special, but really any day at the Melting Pot is Mother's Day to me. Since I had to work Mother's Day this year, it was really nice to go somewhere I love for Father's Day. Adam got a free beer and endless steak...so he didn't complain!

Sophie was not a huge fan of the steam coming at her from the fondue pot, but she was a HUGE fan of the chocolate fondue!

Painting Pottery

For Father's Day I really wanted to do something for Adam that he would really cherish and keep forever. So...I decided that I would have Sophie make him his first one of a kind coffee mug. I was trying to do this the frugal way by getting the supplies and doing it at home. However, I soon realized that this was probably not the best or the cheapest way...so I took Sophie to Third Coast Clay at the Factory. She LOVED it. I loved that they had to deal with this mess. I let her do her thing on the mugs and they are so cute. She also made one for Poppy and Pap-pap. When we went back to pick them up she wanted to paint again! We will have to go back soon!

Oh yeah...we also went to Chicky-Moo...

Lost

Look what I found in our backyard...someone was lost!

Hot Air Balloons

My sister finds out about the coolest things! She invited us to a VBS kick-off at a church near her neighborhood. Neither one of us goes to the church, and neither of the girls will be attending the VBS, but who's keeping track of all that anyway.

At this kick-off they had a bunch of hot air balloons tethered to the ground and they gave rides up! They also had bounce houses, hot dogs, pizza, music...all the good stuff. As we were pulling into the parking lot Sophie got very excited about the bounce castle. However, when it came time to actually enter the bounce house she was terrified. She did bounce a little bit at the end of the slide where the kids were trying to get off. She really could not have been more in the way, but oh well.

Wendy and Josie took a ride up in the Vanderbilt balloon. Sophie would have NOTHING to do with it (not that I'm surprised). I was a little bit leery myself, but if she was willing to go I would have...I swear. Anyway, even though we didn't get to go for a ride, it was still very pretty!

Nashville Sounds Game

I won something...I really did...I never win anything! Okay, so it isn't that exciting...but I won 4 free tickets to a Nashville Sounds game. Since Adam was out of town for work, we got to go with Aunt Wendy and Josie. We may have made it through 5 innings before the meltdowns began. Sophie REFUSED to go the bathroom the entire time we were there...that did not end well. But we did have a great time!
