EEG
Adam strikes again...
Many of you know that Adam is the one who basically diagnosed Sophie with her Recto-Vaginal Fistula. Now...given he didn't know what it was called, but he did identify the problem. At first I thought he was just being dramatic, then I saw it for myself...
Well...he did it again. For a while now Sophie has been rolling her eyes when she is eating, or when she is acting coy. Adam began to believe that these might be something to worry about. Every time I saw one she was either eating or she was acting coy because I told her she was pretty or something. While we were in Kingsport for Easter I saw exactly what he was talking about. He looked it up on the internet and found something called "Absence Seizures"...it described Sophie's spells perfectly.
I called our pediatrician when we got home and made an appointment. Adam managed to catch one of the spells on video and our pediatrician agreed that it was a seizure. Next step an EEG.
I'm pretty tough. When it comes to necessary medical procedures I can handle just about anything you throw my way, even if it is for my child. However, I have to say that this EEG was BY FAR the worse medical experience of Sophie's life. It had nothing to do with the staff, they were patient and wonderful. The problem was trying to explain what was happening to a sleep deprived toddler with significant doctor anxiety. It was not pretty. I have never seen her like that. She was screaming and grabbing at us. Long story short...it was absolutely horrible. I'm almost positive she thought they were trying to kill her. The terror on her face is not something I will soon forget. She was fine by the end, but I'm dreading ever going through this again...
The diagnosis: Idiopathic generalized pediatric epilepsy. Apparently it is genetic (autosomal dominant for you gene nerds out there). The neurologist told us that one of us had this as a child...I'm sure it was Adam!!! Just kidding. We assured him that neither of us had seizures and he rephrased it saying that one of us would have had an abnormal EEG at Sophie's age. Wow...who knew. The hope is that she will outgrow this by age 8-12. I guess that is one reason to look forward to adolescence???

Easter 2011
We spent Easter in Kingsport again this year. Sophie had a ball. We colored eggs, had an Easter Egg hunt, and ate LOTS of candy. Grand-mommy and Poppy had a basket full of eggs on the dining room table, at one point I caught Sophie helping herself to the tootsie rolls inside!
It reminds my of my Grandma Pegg's house. She always had peanut M&Ms in a candy dish and it made a very obvious noise whenever you tried to get some out. My sister and I were constantly getting busted!

Ready...Set....Go
One of Sophie's favorite things to do is "set...go". She poses in her starting position and then yells "set, go mommy...set go". Then she runs until she runs out of space, turns around and says it again. When she tells us this is what she wants to do, she typically runs in place or poses in her starting position. It's hours of entertainment for all of us, and anyone else who happens to be around (she often does this in stores, on the sidewalk, etc).
Twinkle Twinkle
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star...just in case you couldn't tell!

Hop
We took Sophie to see "Hop" at the movie theater. Adam mentioned it to her a week before we went and then we didn't make it there for a week. Every single day Sophie told us she wanted "bobbit" (ie: Rabbit...ie: The Rabbit movie, Hop). She loved the movie, but what she loved even more was the popcorn, she ate almost the entire bag by herself.

Mommy's Shoes
When my sister and I were little, every time my parents left to go on date night we would immediately head to my mom's closet to wear her shoes. My sister never let me wear the high heels for fear I would hurt myself. Judging from my lifetime of clumsiness, this was probably a great idea.
Sophie also loves to wear my shoes. Lately she has become much more persistent about wearing them so I have to trick her into changing into her own shoes. This particular day she pitched a fit when I put the shoes on and kept saying "Sophie's shoes...for Sophie". I let her wear them while we got ready, during breakfast, and even out to the car. I finally got them back once I had her secured in her car seat. She's actually pretty competent walking in them!

Arrington Vineyards
While my parents were visiting, we went to Arrington Vineyards for dinner and music...and of course, dancing. We had a blast! Earlier in the day we all went shopping and my mom let Sophie put on this red tutu in a store.I almost had it off of her when my mom decided she had to have it and bought it for her. It made Sophie's day. She refused to take it off, and has had it on daily since she got it!
She was wearing a very cute little dress and sandals, but had to add her purple headband (notice where she wears it) and her red tutu!!! LOVE it.

Josie has her soccer ball...Sophie has her tutu...that's about right! |
The girls were fascinated by this couple dancing together...hmmm they probably have never seen that before! |
